Defenseman Darryl Sydor is retiring after 18 seasons in the NHL, the St. Louis Blues announced Tuesday.

Sydor, 38, registered eight assists last season for the Blues in 47 games played. In his long career, he played in 1,291 NHL games with Los Angeles, Columbus, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Dallas and St. Louis.

The 6-foot-1, 211-pounder racked up 98 goals and 409 assists over the span, winning Stanley Cups with Dallas in 1999 and Tampa Bay in 2004. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, he spent most of his career in Dallas, playing nine seasons for the Stars.

"I've known Darryl for a long time and he is truly one of the classiest professionals I have seen in this league," said Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong. "I wish nothing but success in the future for Darryl, his wife Sharlene and sons Parker, Braden, Dylan and Cooper."
